  Premise:   If VPS (Value Point System) directly correlates to a team’s winning percentage, why not use it as a metric to drive team improvement? What is VPS?   VPS stands for Value Point System.   It is calculated by adding the points and rebounds plus two times the Assists, Charges taken, Steals and Blocks and dividing that product by the Number of Free Throw misses plus two times the Field Goal misses plus Fouls and Turnovers. Most players focus on two things, scoring, and sometimes, rebounding.   Kids grow up with parents asking, “how many points did you get today”?   The emphasis is on scoring, but scoring is only part of the game.   If more emphasis was placed upon passing, shot selection and defense, individuals would be more likely to contribute to a team-oriented game rather than accumulating points. Handy Dandy Alphabetical listing of Missouri Girls Basketball Ratings February 27th, 2021

  When I was a working stiff, I developed a philosophy that helped me overcome my desire for perfectionism.  I invented a sage professor of philosophy whom I named Dr, Gudenov (pronounced good enough).  When I worked on a project, rather than polishing feathers, I would say this work output is good enough and others will accept it as satisfactory, even if my perfectionism told me it could be better.  I would say "If it is good enough for Dr. Gudenov, it is good enough for me too". That is sort of how I feel about these Missouri Boys and Girls high school basketball ratings.  They could always be better but sometimes, it is good enough for Dr. Gudenov and I will post what I have rather than what I would ideally like. An immerging powerhouse - Lift for Life Girls basketball champions March 18th, 2021

  It should not be a surprise that the Lift for Life Academy girls’ basketball team won their first state championship this year.   Then again, if you looked at their 3-7 record after ten games, you would probably discount them in the state playoffs.   I think coach Greg Brown, who came from McCluer South-Berkeley, had some method to his madness when he set up the schedule.   In the first ten games, Coach Brown had his team playing a bevy of potential state champion caliber teams, including (hold your breath) Union, St. Joseph’s Academy, Webster Groves, Parkway North, Francis Howell Central, Whitfield, Incarnate Word Academy and Vashon.    Much like the high-octane schedule that Coach Dusty Dinkins put together for the class one boy’s champion South Iron Panthers, Coach Brown had his team playing the best teams on the east side of Missouri.   The opponent rating over this stretch of games was 138 and Lift for Life lost those games by an average of fi...
