Final Missouri Boys Class one ratings

Final Missouri Boys Class one ratings

I think the die was cast last spring before the Dora school board unceremoniously dumped Rick Luna and he took his kids and headed off to win an Arkansas state class one title for Viola.  I really think that if South Iron and Dora had played 10 games last year, they would have split them five each.

But after South Iron's disappointing close loss to Dora in a sectional matchup, I truly believe Dusty Dinkins had a plan to win a state championship this winter.  He was not going to leave anything to chance.  He planned out a tough playing schedule, despite the pandemic hanging over the season, and wanted to make sure his team was tough as nails for state playoffs.  He went to Vashon, CBC, and other tough places to win and came home feeling pretty good about losing to the Wolverines and beating the Cadets.  There was not a team with a tougher non-conference schedule and by the time the state playoffs started, it was over for everyone but the Panthers.  The only spot in the schedule that needed to be filled was a matchup with Hartville, but that did not happen.  It would have been a nail-biter.

There were no nail-biters in class one playoffs for South Iron.  The Panthers won their playoff games by an average of 43 points and the outstanding Mound City runner-up squad lost by 19 in the state championship game.  If the Dora school board had not lost their mind and the Luna's had stayed at Dora, it might have been a good game but Coach Dusty and the Panthers would probably have ended up on top.  The Panthers were tough as nails this year.
