Missouri Class 3 Boys High School ratings 12/22/2020

 There are some excellent teams in Missouri class three with Greenwood and Georgetown bound Animu Mohammed, leading the charge.  Not too far behind Greenwood are excellent teams from Hartville and Christian in O'Fallon, MO.  The class three ratings are listed below.

I continue to hope and pray for a full season of basketball.  What's the old saying?  "What goes around, comes around"?  I had one commenter on a rating posting tweet "how can you rate teams with covid going around"?  I told him that I try to discount the spread on a game where it is public knowledge that covid is impacting the strength of the teams involved.

For instance, a few weeks back, Marquette played a Covid-depleted St. Charles West squad and won by 45 points or so.  I could not rate St. Charles West down or rate Marquette up as much as the spread for the final score.  It was an anomaly, as most teams were keeping safe.  Last night, the shoe was on a different foot, as a mostly full strength SC West squad faced a covid-depleted Francis Howell Central team.  Yeah, FHC has star players Myles Estrada and CJ Woodard, but they canceled the JV game because most of those players had been exposed in school and have been quarantined. So that reader's question is becoming more valid... how do I continue rating teams with more covid cancellations?

Even more important, how will all Missouri teams continue this winter basketball season?  The FHC stars are learning remotely and were not impacted.  Other players were attending school full-time, thus increasing their risk of exposure to the virus.  I have stated in previous posts that players and their families will need to live spartan lives to keep the season alive.  Unfortunately, players attending school full-time are exposed to students that are not as diligent in their isolation and covid-safety protocols and that is where things fall apart.  I honestly believe that every basketball team needs to learn remotely or the season will fall apart in the next month. 

So enough for the soapbox pontificating.  I am listing class three here.

 Class one clearly belongs to the vaunted South Iron squad.  The only thing keeping the Panthers from winning a state championship trophy this year would be the pandemic, which could, unfortunately, end the season at any time. Last year, Dora "upset" the Panthers in the sectional game.  I honestly believe that South Iron would beat Dora this year, except that Dora was moved to class two and Coach Luna and his four sons are now in Viola Arkansas and Isaac Haney transferred to Kickapoo.  South Iron's coach Dinkins has taken on an aggressive schedule with Vashon, CBC, Cardinal Ritter, Helias, and several other top-rated schools in class five and six.  Hats off to the Panthers for taking on the big dogs. In class two, Dora will be lucky to win ten games.  I don't know the specifics on Rick Luna's firing last spring but the school board's kids are getting a lot of playing time this season with the Luna family in Arkansas and Haney gone to Kickapoo.  Viola, under co

Back2back Final Missouri Boys Class Five Basketball Ratings - March 22, 2021

Predictions and more Predictions - March 13th, 2021

Corrected March 14th I had the Pembroke Hill -Richmond score reversed.  Thanks to the observant reader for pointing that out to me.  I think I took the score off a Tweet that had it reversed.  It was a good night for Gramps last night.  While I have talked about my prediction percentage going down as the tournament progresses, I was on a roll last night with 18 of 20 right, or 90%!  Both of my misses were in class five boys where Lutheran South continued their hot post-season playoff run and Bolivar "upset" Nevada.  I really did not expect Lutheran South to get by a very strong North County team, but the former LHBA super subs, Jonathan Prange and Jack Lawson, and Company built a strong third-quarter lead and held on against a hard-charging North County squad.
