Missouri Girls Basketball Classes four, five and six district ratings and predictions Feb. 20th, 2021
Revised March 1st for Maryville spreadsheet error
I started posting with class one, then class two, and three boys and girls and then realized I was bumping up to district games that start today. In an effort inefficiency, I have lumped the boys class four and five together in one post and Girls classes four, five, and six in this post. I apologize if it gets messy.
I will start with Missouri Girls Class four. As with the class four boys, I favor the Vashon girls to win class four but their path to a title is slightly bumpier than the boys. If Vashon boys and girls both won their championships, they would join Scott County Central (winning five times in 1985, 1987, 1991, 1993, and 1995 as I recall) as the only other school in Missouri history to win both boys and girls in the same year. But that is a BIG IF. Westminster Christian Academy, Lutheran North, Booneville, Park Hills Central and Chillicothe all have outside chances at the class four title.
Here are my class four picks...
Final Eight:
Vashon beats Park Hills Central by fourteen
Westminster Christian Academy beats Booneville by thirteen
Mount Vernon beats the Fatima/St James district winner by six
Maryville bests an outstanding El Dorado squad by six
State Championship: Vashon beats Maryville by ten
Class five has several great teams, and while Whitfield appears to have the inside track to the championship, Cardinal Ritter or Union could get in their way and West Plains, St. Pius X KC, and Willard will also have their say.
Here are my class five picks...
Final Eight:
Union edges the North County/Cape Norte Dame winner by eight
Whitfield tops Cardinal Ritter by six
West Plains beats Carl Junction by twenty
St. Pius X beats Smithville by eight
State Championship: Whitfield beats West Plains by four
What's the Word on class six girls? Incarnate Word Academy is nearly unstoppable. The only thing that will keep IWA from another state title is a little thing called Covid. Yeah, if IWA does not win the title, it will be a team quarantine or MSHSAA canceling the playoffs.
Here are my class six picks...
Final Eight:
Webster Groves beats the Jackson/Cor Jesu sectional winner by eighteen
Incarnate Word defeats Rock Bridge by twenty seven
Kickapoo defeats Jeff City by seven
Blue Springs beats the Staley/Park Hill district winner by four
State Championship: IWA beats Kickapoll by nine
