Missouri Class One and Two Boys Basketball ratings - week of 2/02/2021

If you have not noticed, I have been working with Chad Rader over at www.810varsity.com to post boys and girls top 20 Missouri basketball teams by class.  We are posting Boys every week and Girls every other week.  It is a lot to keep up on I am trying to keep up with all the scores coming in for both boys and girls.  I don't like to do anything half-way but when I look at the subjective polls that are published for boys and girls basketball, I realize that a statistical rating that has 75% of the team games entered is better than any subjective poll.

I do not know if any of the other pollsters look at my ratings but they should.  You have heard the phrase, "everyone has an opinion just like everyone has an XXXhole.  My ratings are statistically based.  I don't go to games but I do see some teams on live stream but that isn't how my ratings work.

The ratings are based on a mathematical equation with head-to-head scores and comparative ratings.  When I look at these subjective polls, I look to see if I have missed some teams that should get another look, or should I say, a more thorough look.  Because there are over 1100 boys and girls teams playing about 25 games a season, it is nearly impossible to add every teams scores.

So, this morning, I was looking at one poll with a girl's team that is ranked sixty-sixth in my poll and is rated in the top 10 with a 10-6 record against a weak schedule.  Yikes!  I double-checked my ratings and re-ran this team through all their games and, guess what?  They are still sixty-sixth!

Occasionally, I find a very good teams that are not in any subjective poll.

Blue Springs and Webster Grove in class six, Vianney in class five, Pembroke Hill in class four, Bishop DuBourg, University Academy and Lift for Life in class three, Galena, Norwood, Bernie and New Haven in class two, and, finally, in class one, Novinger, Climax Springs belong in the top 10 AND Golden City should be in the top five.

Anybody paying attention out there?

So I will do my best to gather data on all the top 20 teams in each Missouri class and pick up the rest, as best I can, so if you see your class one team rated 70th and they beat someone who was 60th on my list, I apologize for not getting every game into the model.  If you send me the team's MSHSAA schedule with game scores, I will take a look when I have time.  I need data, no complaints.  Fair enough?

Congratulations to Breckenridge, who has moved up out of the last spot in class one after three years there.  Great job Bulldogs.

I will be posting the other classes at:

Class Three and Four Boys     Class Five and Six Boys

Here are Boy Class One and Two  (all of them, by the way):
