St. Louis Area Large and Small Girls Basketball ratings - January 27th, 2021
I had considerable help from my oldest grandson, Patrick Parker, on the Missouri girls basketball ratings and I hope that the model is close to perfect, although these are high school girls so you sometimes don't see the same consistency from game to game as you would in a college ratings. High boys and girls basketball teams show up most of the time, but every once in a while, you wonder if they came prepared.
Seems like a good coach would have them breathing fire at the start of the game. I recall my sixth-grade club football coach telling us to flatten someone on the opening kick-off and send a message. One game, we received the opening kick-off and a kid came flying down with a running start and flattened me. As the coach had indicated, a message had been sent and it wasn't by me. Someone forgot to tell him to defend on the opening kick-off so we would have a running start at those hapless blockers.
I have gotten some nice feedback on my boy's rating post. Well, some good and some not so good. One gentleman told me he loved my ratings but hated the political references. I told him I would try to be better but I won't give up talking about social injustices, bigotry, and an unfair penal system. Another gentleman loved the ratings but wondered why his son and daughter's teams weren't on the St. Louis Area ratings? I told him that I was trying to keep the area down to a 50-mile arc from downtown but had Park Hills Central and Warrenton on the list when they were 10 miles farther out than his kid's school. So I am allowing some creep on the "St. Louis" area. If the Post-Dispatch is covering teams that are playing a number of local teams, then I will probably include them, unless it happens to be Annapolis, MO. That's too far out.
There was a heck of good game between "large" school Incarnate Word Academy and "small" school Vashon last night with IWA coming out on top. Two very good teams. I say "large" because IWA is class six but doesn't meet the 1000 student definition that the Post-Dispatch uses.
So here's a look at the St. Louis Area large and small school teams. Chad Rader will be posting the first Missouri Girls Top 20 for all six classes for me sometime tomorrow or whenever I finish looking at whether Barstow, which plays predominantly a non-Missouri schedule, belongs above Strafford in the class one girls. Such problems. At least I didn't have to face the slippery commute drive this morning. Oh, wait, I have not done that for 10 years. LOL
Check www.810varsity.com for the latest weekly top 20 boys and look for girls on a bi-weekly basis.
And I know someone is going to ask why Vashon is only rated a 150 after losing to IWA by 3 points but the ratings are calculated on the season results and not one game.
Positive feedback is always welcome.
