St. Louis Area Girls Large and Small High School Basketball ratings - January 8th, 2021
We are finally catching up on Gramps Girl's high school ratings for Missouri and the St. Louis area. When I say we, I mean my eldest grandson, Mizzou junior, Patrick Parker, who is studying marketing with a minor in statistics, over in Columbia. Trying to keep up with over 1100 Missouri boys and girls basketball teams and between 50 and 150 games per day has buried me in data. To do a good job rating teams mathematically, the model is only as good as the data you enter. Garbage in, garbage out. Incomplete game results make the model about as good as an opinion poll. So Patrick has been ably helping to bring the spreadsheet up to snuff. Thank You!
Now, as I look at the Post-Dispatch and Gateway Sports Venue writer's polls, I have a question.....
What constitutes a Large and a Small school? And if, by the Post-Dispatch definition, a Large school has more than 1000 students, then why is St. Joseph Academy, with 511 students, in the Large class ratings? Someone, please explain. And why is Incarnate Word, a class six school, and 250 students, in the small class rankings? Seems to me, you put the MSHSAA class five and six schools in the Large ranks and the class four schools and below in the Small. Or, if you use the P-D definition, you put ALL of the small schools in the small school class, including St. Joe's. St Josephs Academy in St. Louis, MO (high-schools.com)
When someone can explain this to me, let me know. In the meantime, I will list the teams according to the Post-Dispatch and GSV polls. So here are the Large and Small schools rated by head-to-head and comparative scores.
Enjoy and ReTweet if you like them. Patrick and I will be posting Missouri Girls Top 20 for every class over at @810Varsity starting next week on a biweekly basis and will put up an all Missouri rankings right here in the next week.
