Missouri Girls High School basketball ratings - All Classes, All Schools 01/18/2021
I am very pleased to get the Missouri Girl's High School ratings up to speed after a somewhat rocky start last year. In my haste to get out mathematically-based ratings, I published Girl's ratings in mid-January of 2020 without a full analysis of every team in the state. Capturing only a small sampling of teams resulted in "half-assed" ratings with some teams overly rated or under-rated by the author.
Putting out ratings requires something of thick skin because everyone is passionate about their home team. It does not matter whether the team is in the top 10 or bottom 100, fans will vent about their team beating someone that is rated higher than theirs. Hopefully, by capturing a majority of the team's game results, we can give an overall rating of a team's performance for the season, and not just one game.
Chad Rader, over at www.820varsity.com (@810varsity) is now publishing both Missouri boys and girls ratings for the top 20 in each class. To get these ratings up to snuff, I have employed my oldest grandson, Mizzou junior Patrick Parker, who is studying marketing and statistics. He has logged a couple weeks of time to help me fill in some of the missing scores for the girl's teams. I must emphasize the "some" in that sentence. Past scores pile up faster than I can enter them in the model. If you like the ratings, let Chad or Patrick know. If you don't like the ratings, please send game scores with your feedback to me. Hooting at a "bad" rating will be ignored. We are returning to politeness and political correctness, starting today, if you know what I mean.
So, enjoy the ratings. As one reader related, "the ratings give us something to talk about". Some "Hot Stove" discussions until baseball spring training starts.
Check out www.810varsity.com. Chad should have the Missouri girl's Top 20 by class ratings up soon. You will not find a more comprehensive list of schools anywhere in the state.
Eventually, we can return to games and yelling for our boys and girls and, occasionally, at the stripes. Until then, Mask up, stay safe.
