First Look St. Louis Yellow Conference Boys Basketball

Last year, I started looking at conference returnees for boys basketball in August. Of course, last year was a normal year and there has been nothing normal about 2020. In fact, the jury is still out on whether there will be a basketball season as the Covid-19 pandemic seems to be on the cusp of a second, deadly wave. With that depressing thought in front of us, I decided to take a positive mind-set. What else can you do?

I am starting to post boys conference outlooks. Of course, things change. Players move to different high schools. I can only blog about stats from last year. I am not a basketball expert. I leave that to people that really know basketball, like Earl Austin, Jr. at Prep Hoops Missouri.

The conferences re-align every couple of years and they re-aligned this coming season.  You can check out the alignments at http://stlouissuburbanathleticconference.org/all_athletic.php

I toy with statistics and this analysis is based on who graduated and who is coming back at each school. The theory being that a teams success is often built upon the returning players and the quality of their program. I look at the number of players and the total points returning and prognosticate based upon those statistics. It might be valid. It might not be valid, but at least you can see what each team has to reload for the new year.

You want individual player analysis.... Go to Prep Hoops and read it from the experts. I will start my basketball power ratings when (if?) the season starts. In the meantime, have some fun reading about each conference I review.

I have a summary of all the teams in the Yellow Conference below.  I will try to hit as many conferences as I can.  It's just for fun.  I probably have some kids wrong...  they move around and we won't see final rosters until Thanksgiving.  Chew on this and hope we have a season.

Here's my ranking of the Yellow Conference.  You could probably put all seven names in a hat and draw a ranking and be just as accurate.  Any one of these teams could beat any other team on a given night. There may be a whole bunch of 4-3 teams in this league.  Five wins might win the conference:

1. Webster Groves
2. Hazelwood Central
3. Kirkwood
4. Marquette
5. Eureka
6. Jennings
7. McCluer
